Progress on the Passage

452 miles traveled.

The next several entries are from the passage updates, while underway from Hawaii to Washington. They have been slightly edited for clarity.

After a frustrating few hours of less than five knots last night, we’re moving quite well again at 5.5 knots with a very pleasant 12 knots of wind. Tae still isn’t feeling very well and I think he has vomited every single day of this passage so far. His condition is improving, despite appearances. I made breakfast burritos this morning with chicken sausage and Dubliner cheese. We’ve had the fishing lines out for a couple of days but no bites yet. We are trying to channel Lars’ fish energy.

A couple of days ago now I was hastily notified that the forsail was slipping. Upon investigation the halyard seemed a little loose and giving it a tug revealed it was not fastened to anything. It seemed that the webbing on the head of the sail had completely come unstitched. Without too much difficulty we sent Dan aloft in order to retrieve the halyard. Fortunately the winds were light.

After that we decided to put the old genoa on and got underway after bobbing along for 2 hours. The working jib probably could be repaired but it’s not something I think I can do underway. Unfortunately in the excitement we were not able to photo the document the process.

It is great to have Starlink aboard but ours seems to be rebooting fairly regularly making it a bit frustrating to use. I suspect to loose connection but the connection that’s most likely loose is not the one that I can reseat while at sea. I’ve already checked the connections at the nav station.
